Technical Trade Education Is Thriving at Thaddeus Stevens College
This past week we had a different type of field trip to Lancaster County. Instead of visiting a Superior Woodcraft project site we visited with Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology for an advisory board meeting of the Cabinetmaking and Wood Technology Program. Industry leaders meet with Stevens College professors Stephen Latta and Rob Tobias along with several other Stevens College administrators to discuss the requirements for 21st century cabinetmaking and how to prepare students for their future in the industry.
While many feel that the trades aren’t thriving in America and that it is difficult to obtain a quality technical education I am here to tell you that is not true in Pennsylvania nor at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. A frequent example that is discussed during our advisory meetings is that hundreds if not thousands of available technical jobs remain unfilled at local companies. The main reason they remain unfilled is due to the lack of trained and skilled workers. Stevens College is striving to change that problem.
Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology
Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology offers 22 innovative technical-based majors that educate and train students for many different job opportunities. Knowledge and skills enable graduates of the programs to excel in their lives. Major classes allow students the opportunity to learn from instructors who have had ample experience in the industries they are teaching and provide a unique, hands-on, project-based curriculum. The hands-on nature of the programs allow students the experience, problem solving ability and the skills that will be used throughout their careers. If you are a Pennsylvania resident looking for a technical education check out Stevens College.
